20 MHI Heat Pumps Recommended in Consumer’s 2024 Review
In their June 2024 product review, leading consumer advocacy group Consumer has recommended a total of 20 Mitsubishi Heavy Industries heat pumps, including 8 models from our Avanti, Avanti PLUS, Ciara and Bronte Series of split system heat pumps.
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries heat pumps fared exceptionally well across all size categories with recommendations across small, medium and large capacities. Mitsubishi Heavy Industries were proud to have 6 heat pumps included in the top 10 for overall scores.
Consumer analysed performance data from 293 heat pumps this year before rating them based on their:
- Heating and cooling efficiency
- Indoor and outdoor noise levels
- Performance in low temperatures
SMALL CAPACITIES (UNDER 4KW)
Out of the consumer-recommended small capacity heat pumps, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries models stood out, with the Avanti and Avanti PLUS series earning top spots.
In 2024, the 2.0kW and 2.5kW models of the Avanti PLUS series emerged as true champions. With industry-leading heating and cooling energy ratings and a variety of energy-saving features, the 2.0kW Avanti PLUS model was rated the second most energy-efficient heat pump in New Zealand, scoring an impressive 92% in heating efficiency.
Both the 2.0kW and 2.5kW Avanti PLUS models excelled in low temperature performance, scoring 81% for heating, making them 4th and 5th respectively in this category.
Thanks to these exceptional ratings, the 2.0kW Avanti PLUS model was recognized as a top performer in this year’s review, achieving an overall rating of 84%—the highest rating for any split system heat pump of any size.
Overall, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries had 11 heat pumps within this capacity size recommended this year.
MEDIUM CAPACITIES (4KW – 6KW)
In the medium capacity category, the 3.5kW Avanti PLUS was recommended by Consumer and achieved a commendable, overall rating of 78%. It also delivered exceptional performance with regard to indoor noise – achieving 89% rating making it the 2nd highest rated medium size heat pump and 3rd highest rated heat pump overall for indoor noise.
The 5.0kW Avanti PLUS was the highest performing heat pump with regard to outdoor noise – achieving a score of 86% for indoor noise levels. The model also achieved an overall score of 77% making it the third highest rated heat pump in the medium sized category.
Overall, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries had 4 heat pumps within this capacity size recommended this year.
LARGE CAPACITIES (OVER 6KW)
Completing the trio of recommendations across small, medium, and large capacities was the 6.0kW Avanti PLUS, which was recommended in the large capacity category. It achieved an overall rating of 71% and was the quietest heat pump in its category, with an industry-leading 90% for indoor noise levels—the highest rating for any high-wall heat pump.
The Bronte series also performed well against tough competition with all but one model recommended this year.
The 6.3kW Bronte model scoring 84% for heating efficiency, 78% for low temp performance, and 83% for outdoor noise level, resulting in an overall rating of 81% was the highest among large capacity high-wall units and earned it a strong recommendation.
Additionally, the 7.1kW, 8.1kW and 9.5kW models from the Bronte series were also recommended. The 7.1kW model scored an overall rating of 76%, an impressive 82% for low temp performance, and a 92% rating for outdoor noise level, making it the highest-rated large capacity heat pump for outdoor noise.
The 8.1kW model achieved 82% for indoor noise, making it the third highest wall-mounted heat pump in the large category while the 9.5kW model achieved an impressive 83% for low temp performance.
Overall, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries had four heat pumps within this capacity size recommended this year.
OTHER MENTIONS
Beyond the extensive list of high-wall heat pumps, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries also had several other product types recommended. This included three models from our FDE series of ceiling suspended units and nine models from our FDT series of ceiling cassettes. Our Akari series of bulkhead heat pumps also earned a recommendation, with the 2.5kW model being highlighted in this review.
