Eden Care
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Eden Care, part of Oceania Healthcare, is a premier aged care facility located in the heart of Mount Eden, Auckland. Renowned for its warm, community-oriented atmosphere, Eden Care provides exceptional residential services, including rest home, hospital, and palliative care. The facility features 50 care units, a commercial kitchen, and a laundry facility. Eden Care sought a sustainable solution to replace its aging gas-powered hot water system with a more energy-efficient alternative.
PROJECT REQUIREMENTS & CHALLENGES
Eden Care previously relied on five 44 kW gas califont systems to meet its domestic hot water needs. However, the facility’s goal to reduce operational costs and move toward becoming gas-free prompted the search for a more sustainable, efficient solution. The system needed to deliver reliable hot water to serve all 50 of its care units as well as its commercial kitchen, and laundry without interrupting daily operations.
MHI’S SOLUTION
Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) designed and installed a new Q-ton air-to-water heat pump system, significantly improving the facility’s energy efficiency. The new system replaced the existing gas system and now provides a continuous supply of high-temperature hot water while drastically reducing energy consumption. The installation of the Q-ton system has helped Eden Care save on operational costs while contributing to its sustainability efforts. By moving toward a gas-free operation, the facility is setting an example for other healthcare providers, aligning with Oceania Healthcare’s commitment to innovation and high-quality care. This project underscores how MHI’s advanced heat pump technology can provide significant energy savings and environmental benefits while supporting the health and safety of aged care residents.
