A Commitment to Society

Social

Our staff and customers often take part in social activities that benefit lesser fortunate communities around the world.

In 2019, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Air-Conditioners Australia, Pty. Ltd. (MHIAA) had the opportunity to support the efforts of SolarBuddy and work with key customers and their families to build lights to be delivered to rural communities throughout Papua New Guinea who suffer from energy Poverty.

For SolarBuddy, providing safe, reliable, effective and innovative solutions to these communities is a way to end energy poverty by lighting up the lives of one child at a time. Over the past 3 years, SolarBuddy, via their various programs, has distributed over 30,000 lights to children and teachers across rural and remote Papua New Guinea [2] and has set up several educational and corporate events for individuals, schools and communities in Australia to get involved in building and funding of SolarBuddy lights.

Products and Projects

We’re proud to offer several energy-efficient solutions which not only improve the lives of our customers but also have less impact on the environment. One of these is Q-ton; our high-efficiency hot water solution.

Q-ton is a highly efficient air-to-water heat pump which utilises patented compressor technology and CO2 gas as a refrigerant to offer a reliable and efficiency hot water solution for a range of commercial applications. Q-ton has enormous benefits for the environment, producing 48% less emissions than an electric water heater and 74% less emissions than a gas boiler.

Q-ton has been used in several projects all around the world including hotels, gyms, universities and even a gin distillery in Tasmania.

Packaging

We are currently working with the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) to develop initiatives which would allow us to reduce, reuse, recover and recycle packaging materials used throughout our supply chain.

APCO is a co-regulatory, not-for-profit organisation that partners with government and industry to reduce the harmful impact of packaging on the Australian environment.

One of these ways is the introduction of the 2025 National Packaging Targets. Established in 2018 the 2025 National Packaging Targets are designed to create a new sustainable pathway for the way we manage packaging in Australia. The four targets, to be achieved by 2025, are:

  • 100% reusable, recyclable or compostable packaging
  • 70% of plastic packaging being recycled or composted
  • 30% of average recycled content included in packaging
  • The phase out of problematic and unnecessary single-use plastics packaging.

MACO Warehouse

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries – Mahajak Air Conditioners Co., Ltd. or MACO is one of leaders in Thailand’s air-conditioning industry. It was established in 1988 as a joint venture between Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd., Japan, a leading, world-class engineering concern, and Mahajak Group, a multifaceted business in Thailand.

MACO has implemented significant enhancements in packaging to promote environmental sustainability. Starting July 2024, we are transitioning from conventional plastic bags to compostable alternatives. Additionally, we are replacing plastic airbags with eco-friendly paper ones. These initiatives reflect our commitment to corporate social responsibility and contribute positively to our environmental footprint.
